WELCOME TO OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY'S TENNIS CAMP
Peter Howell, the Head Tennis Coach at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA returns as the director of this excellent Junior Tennis Camp for the sixth year. Parents and campers have raved about this camp, and many return year after year. Coach Howell has a long history of running tennis camps including the Atlanta Athletic Club, Ansley Golf Club, Bitsy Grant Tennis Center, The Standard Club as well as Oglethorpe University. He is a well-known tennis instructor and player in the Atlanta Community. Coach Howell brings 35 years of tennis teaching/coaching experience in the Atlanta area, having worked with over 10 former All-Americans during his career. As a player, he was ranked #5 by the USTA for 6 years, #1 in GA for many years. He has been selected Pro of the Year four times, and Sr. Player of the Year twice. Coach Howell was recently inducted into the Ga. Professional Tennis Hall of Fame.
The purpose of this camp is to teach tennis in a fun environment. Each camper is placed in a group appropriate to his or her skill level. We stress solid fundamental ground strokes, volleys and serves. Match play, drills and fitness are coordinated in each daily plan. Our staff tailors instruction to each camper’s requirements with our low student/ teacher ratio. We offer at least 30 hours of tennis instruction per session plus a variety of fun off-court activities.
